Race to the finish

By Andrew Ferrell

All three county schools competed in the Turtle Town Track Classic Saturday afternoon as Columbia City won the gold division (big schools), Churubusco won the black division (small schools), and Whitko finished fourth in the black division, four points off of second place.

Columbia City picked up five first place finishes coming from Megan Deutsch in the 400m dash, Renee Menzie in the 3200m run, Carlee Hearld in the high jump, Brianna Whitehead in the discus, and the 4x800m relay team.

Churubusco also brought home four event victories coming from Payton Summers in the 100m dash, the 4x100m relay team, the 4x400m relay team, and Heather Monk in discus.

Below, one of the first place finishes for Columbia City as I join the last 50-meters of the 3200m race. Senior Renee Menzie (in maroon) opens up a big lead on West Noble's Allissa Peterson (in red). Menzie finished with a time of 11:35.72 and Peterson clocked in a 11:43.53.
