Scores from week 7

Columbia City 14, East Noble 17

A couple of missed opportunities on the goal line for Columbia City in the first quarter and a few untimely turnovers in the final minutes of the game cost the Eagles a 17-14 loss to East Noble.

Whitko 13, North Miami 14

The Wizard knew this would be close and with two games left in the TRC, Whitko isn't out of the running for conference champs yet. They close the season with two home games which will help.

Churubusco 18, Culver Academy 14

Obviously the toughest game for 'Busco thus far. They move back into conference play next week and have their two toughest conference opponents to finish the season. Should be interesting with Fairfield on the schedule next.

Columbia City crushed on New Haven's homecoming

[ Yahoo! ] options

Scores from week 6

Whitko 31, Northfield 14

Almost as the Wizard predicted. Good win for Whitko on their homecoming, but now comes the tough part, North Miami on the road followed by Tippy Valley and Rochester at home. However, there TRC title chances are safe for another week.

Churubusco 62, West Noble 25

The only thing the Wizard got wrong was the number of points West Noble scored. Must have been when 'Busco's JV squad came in. Same situation as Whitko, the last few games are the toughest all season.

New Haven 62, Columbia City 33

Solid first half game for City, especially once they got up 13-0 in the first half. Containing the area's top running back, Te'Vaughn Hurse was accomplished through the first half.  Then the ugliness came and in the second half Columbia City couldn't adjust for New Haven's dual threat quarterback, on top of trying to contain Hurse. The game just got out of hand for City in the second half, thus the final score.

Friday's Football Forecast

Alright, we are in the home stretch of the regular season in high school football and two of the three games this week look to be cupcake games (i.e. very easy wins). In other words, the Wizard should easily predict two games correct, the other is a mystery.

Northfield at Whitko @ 7 pm

This is the first of two of the cupcake games. Whitko hasn't allowed a single point to be scored on them during conference play and Northfield might have enough pizazz to score, but if they do it will probably only be one.

Whitko 34, Northfield 7

West Noble at Churubusco @ 7:30 pm

Easily, this is the other cupcake game. For starters, West Noble is averaging 12.6 points per game and 'Busco is averaging 40 points per game. Secondly, West Noble has amassed a total of 63 points for the season. On the other hand, the Eagles have a combined 200 points. Finally, West Noble allows their opponents to score an average of 26 points. And for 'Busco...9.4 points. Need the Wizard say more?

Churubusco 48, West Noble 3

Columbia City at New Haven @ 7 pm

As you guessed, this is not one of the cupcake games of the week for either team.  Both teams are one loss conference teams, meaning the loser is probably on the outside looking in for their chances of at least (possibly) sharing a piece of conference title. New Haven has a running back like no other in the state. However, City did find a way to contain him last year. In order for Columbia City to come out as the victors, they need to complete three major steps. 1.) Wrap up on their tackles. 2.) Realize football is played in four quarters. 3.) Use the advice in #2 and stay awake for ALL quarters. If they complete all tasks, it is a win. But...

Don't complete all three tasks

Scores from week 5

Columbia City 28, DeKalb 14

This was more of a game for City in the first half as they put up 21 of their 28 during the first two quarters. The second half of the game was pretty well dead, but it was enough to hold off the Barons. New Haven next, Eagles will need to clean it up.

Whitko 35, Wabash 0

Wildcats continue to roll in conference play, 3-0.  Of the first three conference games they played, nobody has scored on them. Whitko has 3 shutouts of big proportions, 45-0, 34-0, and 35-0. They could continue this streak with Northfield on the schedule next at home.

Churubusco 37, Angola 21

Busco gets closer to the tougher part of the season and still have a victory on the road like this one. Not much more to say, but that it looks even worse for West Noble next weekend against the Eagles. Take your pick...

Friday's Football Forecast

By Andrew Ferrell

Good week of predictions for the Wizard last week, but not-so-good week for Columbia City at Homestead. The Wizard guesses they will forget about it and are probably pretty excited about Homecoming this week. The Wizard says, no troubles this week with predictions or Columbia City.

DeKalb at Columbia City @ 7 pm

After the first half, the Wizard predicts most people in the stands will be talking about the drop in temperature instead of the game because the game will be all but over for DeKalb. Homecoming game for CC + angry at last week's loss + a recovering Baron team = big win for CC.

City 31, DeKalb 7

Whitko at Wabash @ 7 pm

After starting the season 0-2, Whitko has changed directions and started conference play 2-0. With the game at Wabash, the Wizard says, "No big deal." Whitko continues their "no loss" conference season.

Whitko 24, Wabash 14

Churubusco at Angola @ 7:30 pm

This is going to be the game of the week, but not as much of a game as you think. Ever since the Eagles picked up Angola on their schedule (2005), Angola has never beaten 'Busco. For those six seasons, it always sounds like a close battle, but the Eagles have stomped down on the Hornets by an average margin of victory of 22 points. The season is getting closer to a challenge for 'Busco, but we aren't quite there.

Churubusco 38, Angola 20

Churubusco 1, West Noble 4

In No.1 singles Eagle Luke Lillmar was the closest match for the Eagles, losing (3-6), (6-7), (3-7). No. 3 singles Cody Luttman was the only win for 'Busco as his opponent withdrew from the match. The Eagles fell to 0-6 on the season and 0-4 in the NECC.

Football scores from week 4

'Busco 39, Eastside 6

The Eagles performed just as the Wizard thought. He did think the Blazers would have given the Eagles a little more. Again, Churubusco is a solid team and the Wizard understands that without seeing them play yet this season.

Homestead 52, CC 13

Columbia City was just out-matched on the offensive side of the ball. Homestead's passing attack proved it was everything the Wizard kept hearing it was. Columbia City shouldn't hang their heads too much because next week is homecoming against DeKalb. Should be a turnaround game.

Whitko at Manchester tomorrow @ 2:45 pm on the Ball State campus.

Friday's Football Forecast

Friday, Sept. 9

Eastside at Churubusco @ 7:30 pm

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, 'Busco is good and they shouldn't have a problem with Eastside. However, Eastside did tip-off Angola, which generally means they will be competitive. Churubusco still rolls away with this one.

'Busco 34, Eastside 21

Columbia City at Homestead @ 7 pm

Many remember the stunner last season at CC; Homestead blocked the field goal that would have taken the game into overtime. Every year, City brings the energy to take out the Spartans and every year they get denied. However, most years haven't been like the last couple of years, Columbia City is loaded and can decently match up with the Spartans. City wants revenge, Spartans provide a powerful offensive passing game, and the weather is questionable. All things considered, the Eagles must play all four quarters, which hasn't happened yet. Stranger things have happened, but...

Homestead 42, Columbia City 35

Saturday, Sept. 10 at Ball State

Manchester at Whitko @ 2:45 pm

In the last few seasons, Manchester always sneaks up on Whitko. They look like a team that won't do much harm, but then punch the Wildcats in the gut. Being that this game is on a neutral field, the Wizard thinks this will be a fun game to watch and probably pretty close. Wildcat defense finds a way to hold the Squires on a last-minute drive.

Friday's (Thursday's) Football Forecast

The Wizard is not going to be able to attend Friday's games, but he thought he would still predict them. However, it is a slightly earlier time than usual for his predictions and his score updates will probably come in later than normal, just a heads up. The Wizard granted himself a mulligan for week one, started fresh with his predictions for week two, and got them all right. Cha-Ching! Lets get straight to the predictions...

Churubusco at Prairie Heights @ 7:30 pm

Is there anything going to get in the way of the Eagles? The Wizard thinks not, at least until the bottom third of the season. Another big win for Coach Etzler's crew.

'Busco 41, Prairie Heights 10

Whitko at Southwood @ 7pm

Whitko needs a win to lift morale after starting the season 0-2. Luckily, the Wildcats take on a lowly Southwood team who also started the season 0-2. Even on the road, Whitko picks up the win and starts fresh for conference play.

Whitko 24, Southwood 6

Columbia City at Bellmont @ 7 pm

Columbia City looked ugly in the first half of the Whitko game and will need to put out a full effort against the Braves. The games at Bellmont, which accounts for a few extra points for them than normal and that might make this one a game for the Eagles. Then again, upperclassmen leadership pulls through for City.
