Stars bursting with light, smiling Santas and colorful lights sparkle on the porches and lawns of homes across Columbia City this Christmas season — creating a challenge for judges seeking the year’s best displays.
Today, Columbia City Councilwoman Jennifer Romano officially announced the winners of the 29th annual Columbia City Community Christmas Decorating Contest. Judges looked for creativity and an abundance of Christmas spirit when selecting this year’s winners. The 2021 winners include:
Overall Winner – 232 W Bay Bridge Court
Northwest – 331 N Chauncey Street
Southwest – 343 W Weston Drive
Northeast – 307 N Main Street
Southeast – 1368 E Hanna Street
“The level of community participation this year was truly unprecedented. It was such a delight turning down streets and finding neighbor after neighbor decided to participate this year,” Romano said. “We saw homes decorated that have never been decorated in the six years I’ve been involved in this project, so that was exciting to see. There is so much spirit and creativity in our community.”
The winners will receive a letter from the city and a monetary prize from the City of Columbia City. Winners will be recognized at a future City Council meeting.
“We are thrilled with all of the participation this year,” Romano said. “The lights and decorations around the community add such brightness, joy and optimism to the season for so many people.”
