Flowers add to city’s downtown flair

On Monday morning, the light post in downtown Columbia City received a beautiful seasonal makeover thanks to the arrival of giant baskets of flowers and new flags for Memorial Day. The flower baskets, made possible thanks to the donations of local businesses and organizations, are an important aspect of the summer decor in downtown Columbia City each year. The project is organized by Columbia City Clerk-Treasurer Rosie Coyle and the baskets are cared for by volunteers. Above, from left, Rick Rust and Troy Gawthrop install the baskets on the light post at the corner of Chauncey and Market Streets, near City Hall on Monday morning. The “CC” holders were custom created by a local manufacturer.
